Vine Tattoo Designs -The Beauty Designs and The Meaning

The beauty of a vine tattoo design resides in the fact that it can be simple yet still hold a wealth of meaning. The vine tattoo can be done in a number of ways that can accurately describe the wearer's personality. Not only is it adaptable, a vine tattoo design also holds in itself deep historical, cultural and religious values.

It is believed that Jesus has likened himself to a vine and named his followers as branches. The vine is now a seen as a symbol of resurrection for Christians. Others see it as a spiritual connection with God while some also perceive it as a symbol for peace.

For Pagans, it was viewed as a sign of eternal life and death. They come to this opinion because of the vines characteristic: the ability to keep a tree standing or destroy it with a strong hold.  Celtics see the vine as an emblem of physical and mental strength. In other cultures - specifically the Romans - the Ivy was seen as an emblem of immortality. One Roman god who is always depicted wearing an Ivy crown is Bacchus, representing merriment, revelry, wine and mirth. For Bacchus, the Ivy is a factor to increase the intoxicating effect of the wine.

Vine Tattoos Can Be Very Decorative

Vine tattoos are superbly decorative tattoos that can cover much body space with only a little bit of ink. Most ivy vine tattoos are done in a spiraling style up a leg or arm, you may even sometimes see this type growing up the back and shoulders.

Sometimes these types of vine tattoos are floral or leafy and may be delicate or bold depending on whether they are tropical or of the traditional English garden style.

Vine tattoos may be adorned with flowers or hearts for women, or given a more Guns 'n Roses style for the men. They are very popular with women because of their rather feminine and beautiful nature. Vines come in many shapes, colours and sizes which is why you'll see a great variety of these tattoos. Vine tattoos may be either basic, or elaborate. Vines are also used to draw your eye in a certain direction or may connect separate pieces of body art. Vines that circle around the arms are also a popular placement choice.

An upper arm tattoo or back tattoo can be a place to put a tattoo that can easily be hidden by clothing. Even though tattoos are becoming more widely acceptable, there are many jobs that require tattoos to be covered while at work. Just like certain haircuts, tattoos will soon become acceptable just about everywhere.

Christianity and Tattoos

A man who owns a tattoo shop located downtown contacted me. More about him in a moment. After reading his response, I couldn't seem to get the subject of tattoos and body piercings out of my head. I recalled a British minister - a man in his late 50's at the time - testifying that the Lord had directed him to pierce an ear in the fashion of the bond servant referred to by the apostle Paul. Such a servant would have his ear pierced his master as a sign that he would serve him forever. When this minister obeyed, he claimed that many more young people were attending his meetings as a result.

After a class I was teaching, an attendee mentioned to me that his Christian son showed up on a construction site where he encountered a heavily-tattooed man. The Christian struck up a conversation with the tattooed man who commented that he was surprised that he spoke to him as hardly anyone every did so. He believed this was because of all his tattoos, giving the Christian the in-road to minister to him.

A particularly popular choice for getting a tattoo of an animal is to get an eagle. These are popular among many for a lot of reasons. The eagle is incredibly symbolic, not just to American culture, but also has meaning among the Norse and Greek mythology. That isn't all that has meaning - tattoo positioning and background mean a great deal also: what your eagle is doing while it's there on your skin means just as much as the bird itself. There are numerous designs and plenty of variations to suit one's yearn for ink, and it is this alone that makes eagle tattoos so popular among those that have them.

In American culture, the eagle is the symbol of our nation at large. The soaring wingspan represents the freedom of the open air and the breaking away of invisible chains. There are a lot of eagle tattoos coupled with one version or another of the American flag. Native Americans also hold the eagle in high regard as a wise and powerful creature capable of harboring the spirits of our ancestors and guiding us towards peace. These things make an eagle tattoo both popular among soldier and those with Native American roots, and also those who enjoy the freedom of the road - the eagle tattoo is popular among bikers and veterans of war as well.

Koi Fish Tattoos - Strength and Beauty on Your Body

The Koi fish or Carp is a common tattooing symbol with Japanese and Chinese origins. The myth says that Koi are able to transform through their efforts into dragons, or they can climb waterfalls. They are the symbol of perseverance in hard times. The Carp can also represent strength, wisdom, knowledge, and loyalty.

Koi come in various bright colors like orange, gold and yellow. It is no wonder that such myth surrounds this animal and that it is associated with longevity, as it can outlast human generations. Although the average age for a Koi is 15-30 years, there was a specimen which reportedly died at the age of 226. The way Koi swim with their beautiful colors has inspired many artists, including tattoo artists.

Tattoo Etymology - The History of The Word and The Art of Tattooing

Although tattoos are popular with many social groups in our society but their origins are from very different era. It is believed that tattoo etymology begins in the English language in 1769 with Joseph Banks, the naturalist aboard The Endeavour, explorer Captain James Cook's ship. Whilst sailing throughout Polynesia they took the word tatu from the Tahitian and Samoan languages. In Cook's diary the word is first used as a noun and a verb. Sailors travelling in Polynesia reintroduced the custom into Europe and tattoos were mainly associated with sailors for years (and to some generations still are). Tattooing existed in pre-Christian Germanic and Celtic tribes and was described by Julius Caesar in 54 BC. Today, tattoos are very fashionable for many, but it began in the South Pacific.

Tattoo EtymologyTattoo Etymology

When studied in the future, people will find that tattoo is the second most misspelled word on internet searches and is one of the most commonly misspelled words in the English language. It is often spelled tatu, tato, tatoo and tatto. This is the tattoo etymology given by the Oxford English Dictionary. A variety of spellings of the word tattoo have been used in the arts for example band names and clothing designs.

Also, each design is usually made up of more than a single element woven together by intricate patterns of lines, transforming the tattoo into one elaborate painting on the skin.

For example, in more common Japanese designs such as the ones featuring Japanese koi fishes, tattoo masters already use more than six colors to finish the whole picture. This number just continues to go up as the intricacy of the patterns increases.

Even more fascinating, the first Japanese tattoo designs were found on people of high social standing. Many Japanese historians now agree that the earliest Japanese tattoo designs were utilized in rituals to signify the positions of people in society, as well as to provide ways to protect one's self from evil spirits.
